Odesa – Traces of Poland is both a map and a guide to over 20 selected sites connected to Poland and the Polish community. Clearly described, photographed, and arranged into a convenient sightseeing route, it offers an engaging way to discover and explore Polish heritage in the city.
The Polish Congress, Polish Street, the Brzozowski Palace, Dr. Józef Moczutkowski’s Clinic, and the monument to Adam Mickiewicz are just a few examples of the many important places woven into the urban fabric of Odesa that bear witness to Poland’s historical presence. Over the centuries, Poles living in Odesa made a significant impact on the city’s architecture, culture, and daily life — a legacy that remained visible until at least 2022.
Despite the current impossibility of visiting this beautiful city, the Polonika Institute has chosen to publish this guide, driven by the belief in the importance of documenting and promoting Polish heritage abroad, and in the hope for a swift end to the ongoing war that will once again make travel to the region possible.
The guide was published in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Odesa and is available in three language versions: Polish, Ukrainian, and English.
