A map-based guide to selected sites around Lake Geneva with links to Poland and Poles. It features accessible descriptions, photographs and a conveniently planned itinerary that makes it easy to discover the region’s Polish heritage and learn about its history. Travelling with the map, you will visit Geneva, Morges, Lausanne and Vevey, amongst others.
Among the most interesting sites marked on the map are places associated with the legacy of Antoni Patek, a participant in the November Uprising and co-founder of one of the world’s most famous watchmaking brands, Patek Philippe. It is here that you can visit the company’s prestigious showroom, museum and the final resting place of this distinguished Pole.
At the Grand Théâtre de Genève, you can admire the works of Jacek Stryjeński: the monumental ceiling and curtain, which create an almost cosmic set design for one of Europe’s most important opera stages.
In Vevey, where the memory of Henryk Sienkiewicz is still alive, a monument has been erected on the site where the writer lived and worked for many years. Meanwhile, in Tolochenaz, a charming dovecote has been preserved – the sole remnant of the estate of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the artist and statesman for whom Switzerland became a second home.
This publication is an invitation to explore the region for anyone interested in Polish heritage in Switzerland – both for travellers and for the Polish community living there.
The map is available in three languages: Polish, French and English.
